As a flame retardant, Decabromodiphenylethane exhibits excellent thermal stability. With high bromine content, good thermal stability, excellent UV resistance, low exudation, and being almost insoluble in all solvents, it is widely used in styrene-based polymers, engineering thermoplastics, wire and cable coatings, insulators, elastomers, and thermosetting plastics. It is especially suitable for producing flame-retardant materials for high-end products such as computers, fax machines, photocopiers, and home appliances. During combustion, it does not produce toxic dibromo-dioxins (DBDO) or dibromo-furans (DBDF), and the materials flame-retarded with it comply with European regulations regarding dioxins and pose no environmental harm.
